When I heard that this game was hitting Playstation, I knew immediately that I needed to get it... the hectic, frenzied, animated, cross-over combat that I'd come to know and love would soon be in the comfort of my home!
I went and purchased it, and was not very disappointed. Although slower, it was still worth it. It took me a while to realize that there was a separate mode that let you switch characters mid-battle (thanks Amaron!). It proved to be terribly fun - within two weeks I had beaten it with almost everyone, and gotten all the hidden characters.
The selections of characters were neat... you're able to choose 15 main characters from various Marvel and Capcom games. Among them are a few familiar faces: Spider-Man, Gambit, Ryu, Chun-Li, War Machine, and Mega Man. These are just some of the characters you can use to fight with. Then, you may choose a second character as a back-up... either another main hero, or a "Special Partner". There are a wide selection of partners to choose from, but it seems that many prefer choosing another Hero Partner to one of these. While it is neat to see Arthur from Ghouls 'n Ghosts hurling spears at your enemy with all his armored might, it also doesn't do much damage. In short, "Special Heroes" are almost worthless. I much prefer a team of Megaman and Venom.
I must commend Capcom on a job well done. This game was quite innovative... for once we've recieved a fighting game that WASN'T just another Street Fighter 2 clone (or another "version" of Street Fighter 2 or 3). The art was spectacular, and the game play was just addictive. Hell. They did good.

I'm not much of a fighting game man, so I didn't have such an overwhelming urge to get it. However, when Jeth and I began to review it, I seriously began to regret it. I have been missing out on character-bashing goodness!
Marvel vs. Capcom is very cool. It's great to be able to choose some of your favorite characters (Mega Man!) from all sorts of Marvel and Capcom games. The best part of the game by far is the cross-over mode, in which during battle you can switch to another character you control during battle. While one character takes a breather, you control a secondary character in his or her stead. You can switch back and forth at any time, and can even have both join together to use a dual attack.
The special partners in battle mode are neat, but I agree with Jethren on this one; I think it's better to have a character partner.
Well, this game has gotten me back into the fighting game genre. It's fun, addicting, and includes enough characters to keep you busy for a while.
